Measure Your Hat Size

When measuring for your hat size, please make sure your hair is down and loose and not pulled back in a bun or ponytail.  We recommend having a friend help you to make the process easier, though you can also do it by yourself.

Tools Needed:  Soft measuring tape or a piece of string and a ruler.

>> Watch this video to learn how to measure your hat size.

Step 1:  Hold the tape (or string) about 1 index finger width above your year and wrap the tape around to the back of the head, to the occipital bone, which is the bony part of the head.  Continue around to the other ear and across the forehead also about 1 index finger above your eyebrows.

Make sure you hold the tape loosely.  Try lifting your eyebrows with the tape around your head, you should barely feel that the tape is there.

Step 2:  For measuring tape, use the chart to convert from inches or centimeters to US Hat sizing.

Step 3:  For string, have at least a 25 inches of string available to comfortably wrap around your head.  Refer to step 1 and then measure the length of the string using a ruler.  Use the chart below to find your hat size.

Match Your Measurements To A Hat Size:
 Hat Size Inches Centimeters
6 7/8 21 5/8 55
7 22 56
7 1/8 22 1/4 57
7 1/4 22 3/4 58
7 3/8 23 1/8 59
7 1/2 23 1/2 60

Note that if you are in between sizes, we recommend you select the size up (larger number).  You can always add a little hat sizing tape, which is great for minor hat size adjustments.
